I have been reading your engagement of [Father] Stephen Freeman - you may find the quote above from an Eastern Orthoodx Archbishop useful.
I am an Evangelical.
Do not be deceived by the claims of the 'Authority of Scripture' by [Father] Stephen Freeman - what authority remains when you represent an [Eastern Orthodox] Tradition which treats the 'Inter-Testamental' Apocrypha as 'God breathed' Scripture? - even through these books are expressly excluded from the Old Testamant Jewish Canon and the Jewish Rabbis considered anyone who read them as Scripture to have 'unclean hands'.
When they divorce the person of Jesus from His Living Word they become captive to every form of human speculation and invention.
“You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.” I also think it worth mentioning that the Church is in fact the “pillar and foundation” of that truth. It’s the church, is it not, that both holds the truth up and gives it its foundation? The Church is doing this, not the words in the book called the Bible." -Darla
Surely it is the HOLY Spirit who testifies to the Truth, for Scripture is the sword wielded by the Spirit (cf. Ephesians 6:17).
To confuse the Church and the Spirit reveals the real nature and extent of the problem.
They have no true foundations in Scripture and so you are dealing with quicksand....
